In a series of experiments, the team compared the performance of typical recognizers and super recognizers. The results were eye-opening. In the first test, typical recognizers could only spot 30% of the fakes, while super recognizers managed 41%, which is still below random chance.
However, after the five-minute training, the accuracy improved significantly. Super recognizers identified 64% of the AI-generated faces, while typical recognizers recognized 51%. Trained participants also took their time, carefully examining the faces before making a decision.
